While the dining room is small it has a quaint yet comfortable feel. Windows that look out toward the pool and exposed brick gives you a sense that the place is comfortable and that it has not been infiltrated by Las Vegas dining pretentiousness. Simple Italian with a twist of the Mediterranean, blending fresh with typical in a Trattoria setting. Have a meal with the family or with someone special and you’ll be fine either way. EDITED: No longer very family friendly. Pizza is gone and you are really not going to feed your kid a $15 spaghetti marinara, are you?
How’s the food at Bacio by Carla Pellegrino at Tropicana Las Vegas?
You could say it’s Italian and most people on the strip will say, “Oh, another one of those places.” However, Bacio is different because it is quaint; it’s not pretending to be anything but a place to have a good meal, in a comfortable space for a reasonable price. Have some pasta with the marinara and you’ll be happy. I would suggest splitting the spaghetti and loading up on the bread drenched in the marinara. Do that and you have a meal that is very affordable for two people and about as good as it can get on the strip. EDITED: Bacio by Carla Pellegrino is still very comfortable and the casual feel of the restaurant will make you want to come back. However, the reasonable prices are gone and that feel that the menu can accommodate your pocket book is no longer.
What you should try at Bacio by Carla Pellegrino at Tropicana Las Vegas:
- GONE-Did I mention the Marinara? It’s a simple, traditional tomato sauce that has not been reworked into some young chef’s idea of what Old World Italian should be. REPLACED WITH: Marinated olives take the place of the simple red sauce for dipping my bread. They are fine olives but I'm a sucker for bread and tomato sauce.
- Pumpkin Ravioli (Special on the night is was in)- This dish was special, with the flavors of fall embracing me. Sage and brown butter in a simple entree that speaks to the talent in the kitchen. A few flavors allowed to command the attention and no need to crowd the plate with extras.
- Calamari – It’s average, nothing to write home about, however, dip it into the marinara that has been reworked with roasted peppers and vinaigrette and all of a sudden you are introduced to an array of flavors that are very pleasing.
- GONE Scallopini – Grilled veal scallopini topped with arugula olive oil and roasted red peppers hovering over some fingerling potatoes. This dish drove me nuts because I could not stop myself from finishing the generous portion. It’s a mixture of fresh, light and summer on a dinner plate. You rarely can say that about beef but this is decent rendition of spa cuisine without calling it that. REPLACED WITH: Veal Scallopini with artichokes - this is a dish that has some flavors, Parma prosciutto with an artichoke gravy. Salty and savory. The veal is hidden a bit but it's exciting in the way that fall creeps up on you in Las Vegas. The veal is tender, like butter knife tender and it is subtle but still retains some beef flavor. It is right on the verge of salty. I still finished the entire thing.
- Bistecca alla Pizzaiola - New York Steak with Romas-Sweet, spicy, savory. The steak is peppered so the spice dances with the sweat and it combines to give you savory. Did I mention juicy, like tomato juice and beef flavor goodness that slips out of the side of my mouth.
