The casino is not large but it has the typical table games at low limits and its share of slots. Is this a destination casino? No, but if you are looking for quick place to stop where you get a little old Las Vegas culture this is it. When you walk in you might hear the coins dropping from the slot machines. That is worth the visit alone, most Las Vegas casinos have eliminated real coins.
What you might like at the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino Jean, Nevada:
Very low room rates and inexpensive meals. You also will enjoy the feeling of being in an old Las Vegas casino. The atmosphere is what was once prevalent in Las vegas but now has been replaced by the mega resorts.
2.99 for breakfast and 7.99 for prime rib. The cafe looks like it could double as a truck stop as most of the booths are filled with single men taking advantage of a cheap meal. The weekends look a little different but this is very low budget.
What you might not like at the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino Jean, Nevada:
The casino is what Las Vegas felt like to me as a kid. Smoke filled casinos with bad carpet and blinking light. Cheap eats, cheap rooms and people that look like they have been working the graveyard shift their entire lives are found at the Gold Strike.
That is not to say that they are not nice it just seems like they are working hard to make a living at an outpost 30 miles from where the real money is being made
My suggestion:
Have a cheap meal while driving to Las Vegas. The prime rib is good considering the price. The ice tea taste like moist dessert sand and the ice berg lettuce has the look of the salad that comes home crushed in my son’s lunch pail. On the strip a piece of beef this size will cost ten times as much and melt in your mouth. At the gold strike the prime rib is a bit on the tough side but it's more than edible.
Rooms at the Gold Strike Hotel and Casino Jean, Nevada:
The rooms are clean and posses all the standard amenities you would expect from a budget hotel. You do get a coffee pot and that is typically more than yo get from plenty of Las Vegas hotel rooms. You will not be overly impressed by the rooms but you will be able to sleep in relative comfort.
