Location: Fashion Show Mall

Pro: Atmosphere

Con: Authenticity

Ra Sushi on a Sunday night is a spectacle to behold. This already hip restaurant/hangout spot for 20 somethings evolves into the super-hip Flying Fish Lounge.

Music pumps from every orifice of the restaurant and at further inspection, the dining room, tables and all, turns into a makeshift dance floor for those not quite ready to let the weekend go. The DJ mixes a little Dr. Dre into his set and any available space is quickly occupied by inspired youth ready to dance.

The crimson themed décor only enhances the experience as if to be the heart of the nightlife. Stalks of bamboo jut out of the floor while dimly lit paper lanterns adorn the ceiling.

Bartenders are in constant motion as they try to fill drink orders as fast as possible. They hand out giant fishbowl like goblets filled with a neon pink liquid known as the Tsunami Punch, a specialty of the house. The line outside the door grows longer and longer as bouncers try to keep up with the pushy public. And oh yeah, they serve food here too.

Ra Sushi serves sheik Japanese fusion dishes in a fast-paced nightclub atmosphere. The restaurant specializes in elaborate sushi rolls that aren’t limited to simple raw fish and rice. For instance, the Spider Roll, consisting of deep-fried soft-shell crab, is outstanding with the crunch of the ocean in every bite.

Every great sushi restaurant has a special item on their menu. For Ra Sushi, it’s the Viva Las Vegas roll of course. This extravagant piece Vegas style excess includes spicy lobster and cream cheese all deep-fried to a crispy decadence. Knowing seafood doesn’t please everyone’s palate, Ra also offers up more standard dishes like filet mignon and sesame chicken wings. But it’s not the food that people love. It’s the vibe.

Not only is the Flying Fish Lounge at Ra Sushi a great place to party, but people can do it on a budget. When Ra Sushi converts into the Flying Fish Lounge they boast spectacular deals on food and drink. Sushi rolls for $3.00, sesame chicken wings for $4.00 and hot sake for only a buck are a few examples of the low prices that are featured once a week.

With the enormous number of nightclubs and bars decorating Las Vegas Boulevard, Ra Sushi holds its own with the Flying Fish Lounge on Sunday nights. Although the food may be forgotten, the experience leaves no one hungry.
