Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo - CLOSED

Modern Mexican Cuisine at Dos Caminos Las Vegas

By , About.com Guide

DOS CAMINOS IS CLOSED

Anytime a restaurant has a Tequila menu you have to know that the possibility of a really good time is real. If the guacamole does not entice you to come back over and over again the tomatillo salsa at Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo will do it to you. A bonus at Dos Caminos Las Vegas is that the staff has gone through a Tequila Certification training with the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (Tequila Regulatory Council) so that means that most everyone on staff knows what they are talking about when it comes to Tequila. No need to shoot the chep stuff with lime and salt at Dos Caminos, these people know their Tequila and they will help you understand it far better as well.

Attire at Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo: Fashionable Casual

What it’s like at Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo?

The room is open, spacious and has the feel that hip Las Vegas is now widely recognized for. While the skull wall is a bit freaky the lighting made me look and feel younger. (it also might have been the Passionfruit Margarita)

Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo for lunch or dinner will get you excited about getting out and enjoying the lifestyle that is Las Vegas. A couple of drinks and the upbeat music and soon you’ll find yourself wanting to dance. It's casual, not in the way where flip flops and swim trunks go well but in the three drinks and long conversation way.

The lounge is perfect for a drink or two and the “fiesta vibe” will keep you there longer than you thought possible. It is right off the casino floor so if you need a spot to have a drink and get your dose of Las Vegas casino people watching, this works.

How’s the food at Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo?

My ideal lunch can be had at Dos Caminos Las Vegas at the Palazzo, chips, salsa and guacamole with a margarita. You really don’t need much more however when you consider how tasty the guacamole is you’ll clearly understand how avocado can be an entire meal. Pour over a tiny bit of the tomatillo sauce and you’ll be overtaken with an overwhelming need to speak Spanish.

The food is the right combination of traditional Mexican cooking with intriguing ingredients that are typically not associated with Mexican cuisine.

What ever you do, do not skip the guacamole at Dos Caminos Las Vegas. You have not had guacamole like this before and if you are lucky they’ll give you a refrigerator magnet to take home with the recipe right on it.

Things you should consider when dining at Dos Caminos Las Vegas:
See the menu at Dos Caminos at the Palazzo Las Vegas

  • Tortilla soup - Light with a savory flavor that is as refreshing as a soup can get in the desert. Well seasoned chicken and avocado chunks add to the flavor of the soup. If you want to add a little drop in some of the tomatillo salsa.
  • Ceviche -Tuna ceviche, shrimp ceviche sangrita, octopus ceviche, Olives, cherry tomatoes, habas, yellow pepper salsa and chile Oaxaca. The sampler of this excellent ceviche is alarming because I finished it so fast I wanted to order more.
  • Beef picadillo empanadas - Add in some of the tomatillo salsa and you'll be dancing to the beat of the music that is quietly beckoning you to dance.
  • Plantain empanada-I would never order this, however, as I sunk my teeth into the empanada I was immediately surprised by the aiole, the black beans and the generous flavors of the plantains. A must order on the menu at Dos Caminos
  • Tacos - Carnitas - slow roasted pork - Possibly the best item on the menu, the shredded lettuce is bathed in a vinaigrette that yanks the flavors of the roasted pork and slams them into your taste buds..
  • Dos Enchilada -mole sauce and tomatillo sauce - Poblano sauce makes me wonder why I was not born to a Oaxacan women who could make food as good as this.
  • Desserts
Oaxacan chocolate mousse – Mexican chocolate, light and decadent
Tres leches flan - the berries on top make you want to eat it with a fork and the consistency is such that it is possible.
Cajeta crepe with roasted plantains - my wife bragged that she grew up on this stuff and I wonder why she has never offered it to me.

Drinks at Dos Camino Las Vegas:
A few things you need to drink at Dos Caminos Las Vegas:

Passionfruit margarita - Cazadores Reposado, passion fruit fresh lime. Try to only have one, it’s real tough.

Blueberry pomegranate Margarita - Partida blanca, blueberry pomegranate – Pomegrante juice is good for you, right?

Camino del oro - El Tesoro Reposado, lime juice, Gran Marnier. Their best Margarita by far.
