Con: location
I recently returned from staying at the Luxor from June 15-June 21st. The last time I was in Vegas was three years ago. What struck me the most is that with the new smoking laws, the hotels and casinos no longer reek of cigarette smoke.
We arrived at the hotel in the afternoon and discovered an extremely long check-in line. I feared when looking at the line, it would take least a three hour check-in and was not happy after a long bumpy flight. However, the line moved quickly and we checked in after about waiting on line for about 30 minutes. We stayed in the East Tower, Room 16315. My complaint was that the room was near the soda and ice machines which was a bit noisy, after unpacking I had no desire to request a room change. The beds were decent, but nothing special. The clerk suggested that we upgrade the room for an additional $20 a night, as the room we had originally booked had not ever been remodeled. I wonder what that room could have looked like?
My room consisted of two queen sized bed, with a bedspread that was torn on the inside. The bathroom was very nice with a separate soaking tub and shower. For the price of the room, I thought the TV should have been updated to a flat screen TV. As most of the hotels in Vegas, it is very large and confusing including the Luxor. Sections of the Luxor Casino appeared a bit undesirable because of the construction and black drapery covering.
I ate in the Fusia restaurant three years ago and thought it was better three years ago. The food and service was good, but overpriced for what you got. My favorite part of the hotel was the swimming pool area. The pool area and the water was crystal clean. It had two pools, we opted for the larger one. The water was warm, but still refreshing. In 118 degree heat the cool water fall felt refreshing.
There were several things I didn't like about the hotel. The bus stop was not near and taxis got expensive. If you are a big walker this would not be a problem. For me, just walking through the casinos, it felt like I already walked miles! The location was not my favorite, although I felt safe, unlike the North end of the strip. If I return to Vegas I would stay more central strip. Also there was no safe in the room, but a safe box area like a bank located next to the main desk, which just was not convenient.
The good thing was that there was no charge for the use of the boxes and you had a pick of sizes. We had a very early flight back home and had to check out by 4:30 am, so we were in the lobby very early to check out. Had a very unpleasant experience, as I was checking out. When I rang for the elevator to go tot he lobby from my floor, there was a man laying down on the floor of the elevator out cold, drunk? dead?, I do not know. He didn't appear to be drunk to me. He was nicely dressed and clean. The elevator door kept on opening on my floor repeatedly. I told the clerk at the check out area and didn't care for the response stating everyone is drunk at this hour! Well the clerk wasn't drunk and neither was I. The poor man could have had a heart attack; I believe 911 should have been immediately called.
Up to that point I would have stayed at the hotel again, after that experience, I am not so sure.
