Excalibur Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

About.com Rating 3

By Zeke Quezada, About.com

What to expect at the Excalibur Hotel:

The Excalibur is around 18 years old and the truth is that those kids who first walked through the doors and played arcade games are now returning. On any given weekend you will find the party atmosphere in full swing and the decibel level way up. This is not the same Excalibur that you remember as a kid.

Excalibur and its 4000+ rooms are a huge and impressive presence across the street from the MGM Grand and New York/New York but the action is going on inside. The Excalibur hotel offers a lot for the family and a huge casino for the parents all at a low price. The rooms look a lot better now as they are beginning the renovation process. For the price the Excalibur is one of the best deals on the strip right now.

What you might like at the Excalibur Hotel:

If you are traveling with your family and you are considering the cost of a vacation the Excalibur is an excellent choice. The Midway area located directly below the Excalibur Casino is a decent place for kids to play and take home a multitude of stuffed animals. It almost seems impossible not to win. There are far less crowds at the carnival type games than you would find at Circus Circus. There are plenty of places for children to eat for a fraction of the cost that you find at other strip hotels.

If you are not traveling with kids and you are just looking for a good deal, the Excalibur is going to save you a few dollars and is starting to get a party vibe going. It's not high end party central but it is fun and comfortable. Head to Dick's Last Resort and then out to the Casino and you will feel the difference.

What you might not like at Excalibur Hotel:

There are still a lot of children around, if you don’t have one you might not want to stay at Excalibur. The buffet has gradually become a problem at Excalibur, what used to be a bargain place to eat has recently become more expensive and the quality has plummeted.

However, if you want to take advantage of the new rooms and the reasonable rates there is a walkway to the Luxor and a tram to the Mandalay Bay. Entertainment options are within walking distance.

My suggestion:

The Excalibur is a good place to play blackjack because you can still find low limit tables at this large casino. If you have kids they will love playing downstairs and you should enjoy the friendly gambling atmosphere. Try the Tournament of Kings for a dinner show where your kids will love the opportunity to eat with their hands.

Start your vacation with a quick meal at Dick's Last Resort and get into the Vegas mindset.

Rooms at the Excalibur Hotel: The biggest surprise at the Excalibur are the new remodeled rooms. They look great and they feel a bit more spacious than the original rooms. The furnishings have been updated and the restrooms rival any of the other moderately priced strip hotels. They have 4000+ rooms that average in price around $70. You can often find specials as low as $50 and you can encounter high end weekend prices as much as $200. This is a perfect example of a budget hotel that is quick to raise prices during busy weekends and heavy convention periods. Be prepared for some very small rooms at the Excalibur.

This is the time to take advantage of low rates in Las Vegas. Room rates are lower than you have ever seen them.
