Sitting down with a glass of Cazadores Anejo and slowly tasting the subtle and not so subtle flavors of a Tequila that was produced in the highlands of Jalisco, Mexico, I can only reminisce about my history with this sprit. I grew up in a home where Tequila was often brought out to combat the flu or to celebrate a special occasion. If your favorite sports team won, you'd have a shot, if they lost, you sipped and talked about the problems the team was sure to face.

The Best Places to Drink Tequila in Las Vegas

In my family, lime and salt was a sign of weakness, so my older brothers would get a dose of the youngest son and his bravado when we took to sharing Tequila for the first time. I had already been to college, so while they had never shared a drink with me, I had already worked my way through a mini-education in the flavors of the Blue Agave.

Fast forward to present day and my education was enhanced as I spent a day with the crew from Dos Caminos at the Palazzo and we participated in a course on Tequila from the Consejo Regulador Del Tequila, CRT. The CRT recognized Dos Camino with an Award "T' certificate that states that they have met the requirements for distinction by the Tequila Regulatory council.

If you are enamored with the idea of rolling hills, populated with blue agave and the old ways of tahona crushing jima to produce the juice that will eventually become this complex spirit, you'll love the idea of having a conversation with an employee at Dos Caminos. If you feel like you would like to turn the corner on your drinking education, why not go to Las Vegas and find a spot at the bar at Dos Caminos and allow these newly minted tequila aficionados to expand your knowledge.

I spent the afternoon sampling Cazadores Tequila with their Tequila Ambassador. Standing at a bar with a tall, attractive, woman who was mixing, combining and directing the tequila consumption was very much the feeling I once got when the tequila would come out in my household. The only difference was that instead of having my older brothers commanding me to shoot the kerosene flavored water, I was prompted to slowly caress the tequila in my mouth and seek out the flavors of herbs, fruit, spice and the earth from which the Blue Agave came from.

Tequila is not that stuff you throttled into your system in freshman year, it has evolved and in Las Vegas the transformation is very evident.

Pour one for yourself and then pour one for me, I'm on my way.
