Show Review :
Let me start out by saying that I've never reviewed anything online in my life. Always figured it wasn't worth the hassle. But if doing so prevents even one person from wasting their money on this show, then it was worth it. Let me also say that I am (or, rather, was) a HUGE fan of "Mindfreak," which is why I ignored all of the horrible reviews of "Believe." I mean, how bad could it be, right?
The answer: really, really bad. Everyone in our party hated the show, and as we were walking out of the theater, we overheard a bunch of other people around us talking about how bad it was. First, there isn't really any "Cirque du Soleil" aspect to the show, other than some interesting costumes on the dancers, and three "clowns" who were, quite frankly, more entertaining than Criss. Second, the "magic" was downright embarassing, and was more like watching an amateur magician in a high school talent contest (with a few flashy effects and puffs of smoke). I mean, we could literally SEE and/or EASILY figure out how each of the 5 or 6 tricks were done (yes, you read that right -- there were only about 5 or 6 tricks in the whole show). Given how bad and obvious the "tricks" were, I am now certain that the TV show is totally fixed. I mean, there is no way his magic can be that impressive on TV, yet so ridiculous in person. Third, Criss had absolutely no charisma, which was perhaps the worst part of all. It wasn't bad enough that his attempts to be witty fell totally flat, and consisted mostly of references to the "drunk" people in the audience. No. Even worse was the fact that, when Criss would try to be funny, there was often total silence in the theater. Talk about awkward. We were cringing, trying to give courtesy laughs, and hoping that no hecklers would start yelling stuff from their seats. Bottom line, I really wanted to like this show, but it was just downright awful.
I am shocked that it is still running. Sorry Criss.
