You must consider the time of day but taking a bus on the Las Vegas strip can save you some time and money on cab fares. However, you must realize that if you get on a bus on a Friday night you might as well take a nap because you will never get to where you are going in time.
While the Las Vegas strip is one of my favorite places to stroll and people watch you might be more inclined to get somewhere with less energy. For you, the bus works and if you are patient while on vacation you should have no problem getting around using the bus service on the Las Vegas strip. The Duece is a double deck bus that goes up an down the Las Vegas strip 24 hours a day.
The Regional Transportation Commission, (RTC) of Las Vegas has a great flyer on their site that will help you find your way and find a route. Getting Around Las Vegas Brochure from the RTC

You can but if you are going to the Las Vegas strip you have to get off at the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. and then transfer to either The "Duece" strip bus (operates 24 hours) or the strip and Downtown express. If yo are going Downtown the Westcliff Airport Express is only $2.
