It's More Than Dancing, Jubilee is Pure Fun

I recently saw Jubilee again and I really have lost count as to how many times I have seen the production at Bally's Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. The one thing that is a recurring theme is that it seems like everybody is always having fun. So I found some fun facts about the Jubilee Show that should amuse you and might help you stare a little harder at the costumes and the performers the next time you are in Las Vegas and you decide to see Jubilee at Bally's Hotel.

Jubilee Fun Facts
I didn't write them just passing them along because the show is a Las Vegas institution.

1. The cast of Jubilee! features 85 high-kicking performers.

2. This is a man's world--except on stage. Showgirls outnumber the fellas by about two to one.

3. To hit the heights of dancing fame, all Jubilee! Showgirls must be at least 5-foot-8, while Showboys tower at 6 feet tall.

4. All dancers must excel in ballet, jazz and tap.

5. Bob Mackie and Peter Menefee are the show's original costume designers. Hey, if Bob Mackie is good enough for Cher and Britney...

6. There are nine costume changes in a single performance.

7. It only takes the women three minutes to put their costumes on. We told you these were extraordinary women.

8. So long, puckers! The only lipstick color showgirls are allowed to wear is red.

9. With all the twirls and kicks they must execute, the dancers go through 1,500 pairs of tights a year.

10. The action isn't only on the stage. There's an army of more than 50 people working behind the scenes, including stagehands, lighting techs and wardrobe folks.

11. With 17 set changes in the show, even a replica of the Titanic makes an appearance. (No, it doesn't sink the show.)

12. The heaviest headdress weighs in at 22 pounds. (Talk about a lot on your mind!)

13. About 4,200 pounds of dry ice is used for the fog effects in each performance.

14. Jubilee! performers must re-audition for their job every six months.

15. How many people have seen Jubilee!? Approximately 1,000 people see the show each night. At 12 shows a week, that's a pretty big number.
