Walking, Eating, Drinking and Gambling

...ouch

By Zeke Quezada, About.com

I could not believe my eyes. Two of my hands were already losers. Our fate rested upon the two cards that were face down on the green felt of the black jack table. The dealer flipped over my wife’s card and effortlessly took her money; she had a three, her double down card. He made his way to me like a samurai with a precision cutting tool of a sword. I one quick swoop he exposed a seven card and he took my last twenty dollars of gambling money.

The walking tour was over.

I looked around in disbelief and my wife smiled like only a wife can when she realized that if she had been listened to we would be having ice cream instead of losing sixty dollars.

I limped away from the table as my back had stiffened up from the beating I had just taken. My wife pulled out her forty five dollars of gambling money and grabbed my hand.

“I’d rather eat than lose it all, let’s have some peel and eat shrimp at Emeril’s” She was so enthusiastic there was nothing I could say.

We made our way through the casino at the MGM Grand and found the bar at Emeril’s New Orlean’s Fish House. I ordered a Beer and she signaled to make it two. We ordered two pounds of peel and eat shrimp, two gumbo’s and a po boy sandwich. That along with three beers each made us forget about walking, and forget about losing money.

We stepped into the cab at 2:30 pm, ready for a nap and a new adventure.
