Tropicana - The Island of Las Vegas

About.com Rating three out of Five

By Zeke Quezada, About.com

The Bottom Line

This hotel is still a classic. Essentially, it was one of the first to come up with a theme. "The Island of Las Vegas". These days the palms are a bit dated.
Pros
  • Location - On the busiest corner in Vegas
  • Pool - Swim up black jack and stiff drinks
  • Great bargain property
Cons
  • Island Tower - Dated and a long walk from casino
  • Dining options are average
  • Low ceilings in casino rid you of good luck

Description

  • The casino tower has been remodeled and the rooms are spacious and well appointed.
  • The long walk to the pool from the casino tower is a bit of an inconveniece.
  • The Savanna Steakhouse is a classy place but the meals are only average relative to the price
  • The Island tower, once very nice, now has that very lived in look.
  • A plus, I called the hotel on a Saturday afternoon in June and got a $99 dollar room.

Guide Review - Tropicana - The Island of Las Vegas

The Tropicana was one of the first hotels I ever stayed at in Las Vegas. It was there before the intersection of Las Vegas Blvd. and Tropicana Ave. became the mega site that it is. The pool was the big attraction then with its swim up black jack tables and waterfalls. It is still picturesque, but can use some upgrading. On a Saturday afternoon in June the place was alive with fun and action. The swim up black jack tables were alive, the pool was crowded and the festive atmosphere was fun. In a pinch this hotel is a great place to stay, however I do believe that with proper planning a higher quality product can be had for the same price.
