The Tropicana cannot be beat for location on the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd., its neighbors being the MGM Grand, New York/New York and The Excalibur. The rooms are cheap and you get one of the nicer pools in town. This use to be the “Island of Las Vegas” but time and bigger resorts have reduced this once glittering hotel to a second rate property. However, because standards when up elsewhere the Tropicana has had to keep up and you can still find a very good place to stay at an unbelievable price.

What you might like at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino:
The pool and the gardens still can compete with some of the big boys. It is a fun place to spend a sunny afternoon in Las Vegas.
What you might not like at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino:
The rooms do show their age and the casino feels smaller than ever when compared to its neighbors. They cram so much in to so little that it often feels like an overstuffed trailer.

My suggestion:
Stay here for the price and the location and take advantage of the restaurants at MGM, the nightlife at Mandalay Bay. During the day you still have a very nice pool at the Tropicana.

Rooms at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino: 1910. The island tower was once the nice tower now I look at the décor and the mirrors on the ceiling and I ask myself “what was I thinking?” The paradise tower as it is now called is a bit nicer with upgraded furnishings and larger sitting areas. They are nothing spectacular but you get a great room in one of the best locations for a small price. Rates from $40 per night
