The Monte Carlo is what you could call the best moderately priced hotel in Las Vegas. Its location is ideal near the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. Its neighbors include New York/New York, MGM Grand and the Excalibur. This is the ideal resort for families as it offers fast food for all meals, an exciting and entertaining pool area and corridors that allow children to not have to walk through the casino. The property has a high end feel at mid-level prices.

What you might like at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:
Andre's has an extensive wine list and fabulous ambiance. For the children the food court gives them options and gives you flexibility and convenience. The lazy river in the pool area will provide a long restful afternoon. Low limit tables tend to survive here even on crowded weekends.

What you might not like at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:
There is a lack of Vegas flash at the Monte Carlo. There are no loud lounge acts to waste away a few hours and the general feeling can sometimes feel stale. The lounge at Brand Steakhouse is a decent place to have a drink and the occasional performer is decent.

My suggestion:
If you have kids, this is the place to stay for the price, convenience and location. Next door at NY/NY they have a large arcade, across the street at the showcase mall there are movie theaters, a virtual reality games and the Excalibur a short walk away also has the midway area for children. Without children it is still a full service resort for a fraction of the cost of the big boys. You don’t encounter the large amount of kids like you would at the other kid friendly hotels.
