Another Las Vegas landmark has been transformed into a large pile of ruble. The Frontier was imploded November 13 to make room for yet another mega casino. I'll miss the deli and Gilley's. What about you? What will you miss about the Frontier?

What to expect at the Frontier Hotel and Casino:

The New Frontier is essentially the old Frontier with a new name. Its location near the Fashion Show Mall and Wynn Las Vegas make it good for those who long for a little of old Las Vegas mixed in with the new monster resorts. They play it off as a cowboy hotel with a mechanical bull at Gilley’s and a general cowboy theme around the casino. It is a value hotel that gives you plenty for your money.

What you might like at the Frontier Hotel and Casino:

Phil’s deli near the back has some large portions for great prices. Try the Pastrami and hope they have rye for about $7. The pool area is nice and holds one of the last pools on the strip that has a deep end. These days pools in Las Vegas hotels all bottom out at around 3-4’ but not at the Frontier it goes all the way to 12’ Dive in and listen to the young lifeguards mock you.

What you might not like at the Frontier Hotel and Casino:

This hotel does feel a little on the low end, it has seen better days and when they changed the name and added the “new” they really did nothing. The suites are nice and in the newer tower but they are a long walk from the casino

My suggestion:

If you decide to stay at the Frontier play the slots. I have heard of an inordinate amount of people who have won large jackpots at the New Frontier. Also, opt for the bigger rooms in the tower, they cost just a bit more and the walk is long but they are nicer.

Rooms at the Frontier Hotel and Casino: 980 rooms that look a little worn. The suites in the tower are much nicer and they have separate sleeping and living areas. This is a value hotel so you get what you pay for so be prepared for below average accommodations and amenities. Rates start at $40
