What it’s like? 3950 is another in the long line of good restaurants at Mandalay Bay. You are greeted by a glass enclosed wine rack that looks impressive but does not contain any real gems. This is a nice place to have a drink before dinner or to just kill a little time before a spot opens up in the poker room. The dinning room is small, 65 seats, but not crowded and the atmosphere is upbeat and open. The menu is Contemporary classic which means you will get some beef, some fowl and some seafood.
This is the type of restaurant you have to look good to eat at. They don't demand it but you know what they are thinking. The food is very good but it is significantly more expensive than it should be. That's not to say it was not worth it, just that it seems a bit too much for a piece of beef and some greens.
How’s the food? If you don’t mind spending $18 on mac n cheese you have to treat yourself. It is nothing like that garbage that you feed your kids from a box. This is laced with lobster and truffles. It is the least expensive opportunity to have lobster on this menu. Your best bet for a flavorful, culinary experience will be with the seafood. While both the rib eye and the porterhouse are tasty it is hard to believe that this cow really cost that much more than others around town.
Shower, grab a snack and then head over and order a salad and a glass of wine. It will save you a lot of cash, and you can probably get the same type of food at ten other places around town for less.
