Drive away from Las Vegas in any direction and you quickly realize that the Southwest is vast and picturesque. Head towards Utah and the sandstone cliffs surrounding the Virgin River motivate you to buy hiking boots and a GPS. Head South from Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon is massive as it sprawls across Arizona. If you really feel like a road trip is right for you, head towards Yosemite National Park. You'll go past Death Valley National Park, Mammoth Lakes and Mono Lake before you get to one of the most stunning spots on the earth. There are plenty of day trip options from Las Vegas and the numerous National Parks within a few hours drive make Las Vegas perfect for exploring the Southwest.

If you are looking for something a little closer to the Las Vegas strip you could head to Red Rock Canyon and work on your rock climbing and boulder scrambling. If you just want to get outdoors in Las Vegas take a look at the Springs Preserve where you can learn about the ecology of Southern Nevada and the ecosystem that is the Vegas Valley. You have plenty of options beyond the late night parties and the gut busting meals in Las Vegas.
