I can remember watching the Mirage Volcano going off for the very first time when I was 18 years old. My father was disgusted with the site. My mother thought it was beautiful. It was Thanksgiving weekend 1989 and my then girlfriend, who became my wife and I walked in to this jammed casino and witnessed the complete transformation of Las Vegas.

The Mirage set the bar so high that everyone had to rethink what Las Vegas meant to them. Today, celebrity chefs, high end spas and fancy nightclubs crowd the strip and the feeling that I would get when sitting at the cheese steak place across the steak is gone.
